Everyone's watching oil prices. I'm watching something else entirely.

While Europe scrambles for gas and Brent crude smashes through $100 — the real story is being written in Pakistan.

Yes. Pakistan.
Rooftop solar has exploded across the country over the past two years. And right now, as the IEA calls this "the greatest global energy security challenge in history," Pakistan has a cushion that most of Europe doesn't.

The sun doesn't care what's happening in the Strait of Hormuz.
---
But Pakistan isn't even the most compelling story.

Let me introduce you to two countries you won't see trending right now — because they have almost nothing to worry about.

🇺🇾 Uruguay. Population 3.5 million. No oil reserves whatsoever. In 2008 they made a decision: go all-in on renewables. Today, 98% of their electricity comes from wind, hydro and solar. They're a net exporter of energy to their neighbours. The Iran conflict? Barely a footnote.
🇳🇴 Norway. 98% of electricity from hydro and wind. The crisis that's sending European energy bills through the roof? Norway is watching it from a distance of several thousand feet.

These aren't rich superpowers with unlimited R&D budgets. Uruguay did this in under a decade, starting from nothing.
---
And the rest of the world has noticed.
The numbers are staggering:
☀️ 2020: 139 GW of new solar installed globally

☀️ 2022: 240 GW

☀️ 2024: 597 GW — a 33% surge in a single year

☀️ 2025: on track to exceed 760 GW

In the first half of 2025 alone, the world installed 380 GW of solar — 64% more than the same period in 2024. India doubled its solar capacity. Brazil grew 40%. Africa's solar imports from China rose 60% in 12 months.
The world is not waiting for Washington to figure out its energy politics. The world has already decided.
---
The Iran conflict hasn't created the argument for solar.
It's just made it impossible to pretend the argument doesn't exist.
"Once you've got your solar panel, there's no cost for the sun. But once you've got your gas power station, you pay every day for the gas you burn." — Kingsmill Bond, Ember
